Quiet Hour Ministries: Mongolia

Quiet Hour Ministries: Mongolia

Christianity is relatively new in Mongolia but growing steadily. The Mongolian church is vibrant, passionate, and predominantly made up of first-generation believers. There is a deep spiritual hunger and openness to the Gospel.

Overview

Mongolia, often referred to as the "Land of the Eternal Blue Sky," is a unique blend of ancient traditions and rapid modernization. Ulaanbaatar, the capital city, is a fascinating place to understand the contrasts of Mongolian life. From the sprawling steppe and nomadic lifestyles to the bustling city center with its growing skyline, Mongolia is a place of cultural richness.

One of the most unique aspects of Mongolian culture is the hospitality of the people. Visitors are often welcomed with open arms and treated to the traditional “Suutei Tsai” (milk tea) and “Boortsog” (fried dough). The sense of community is strong, and people are always eager to share their way of life, whether it’s in a city apartment or a ger (traditional yurt) on the steppe.

In terms of the church, Christianity is relatively new in Mongolia but growing steadily. The Mongolian church is vibrant, passionate, and predominantly made up of first-generation believers. The local church faces unique challenges due to the strong cultural ties to Buddhism and Shamanism, but this also means there’s a deep spiritual hunger and openness to the Gospel. Engaging with the Mongolian church offers a rare opportunity to see God at work in a context that is both challenging and exciting.

The Community

In 2016, a QHM mission team visited Mongolia and had a positive experience, with a recommendation to return. Now, nine years later, we have the opportunity to return with another team and support a campaign at five sites for outreach programs and three small renovation projects at local churches in Ulaanbaatar. Christianity is relatively new in Mongolia but growing steadily. The Mongolian church is vibrant, passionate, and predominantly made up of first-generation believers. There is a deep spiritual hunger and openness to the Gospel. Engaging with the Mongolian church offers a rare opportunity to see God at work in a unique and exciting way!

Check back here two months prior to the trip for more information and pictures of the communities where we will be serving.
