The Scooter Project

The Zambia Plan calls for the evangelization of the Western Province of Zambia.  This province has few roads and very fine sand instead of soil.  This creates a logistics problem for the movement of evangelists.  To overcome these problems, we are designing new vehicles that are suited to both the terrain and the economy.

Our first design is a one-man scooter.  Its purpose is to extend the range of an evangelist who would otherwise walk to his destination.  This allows us to maximize the use of our manpower.  An evangelist who walks two hours a day to preach has access to 28 square miles of land.  In sparsely populated areas of Africa this may not include a very large number of people.  However, an evangelist who uses a bush scooter for 2 hours a day has access to over 700 square miles.  This puts him into contact with 25 times as many people as he would otherwise be able to visit.

Specifications for this prototype:

Weight:    89 lbs.

Speed:     19 mph

Economy: 100 mpg estimated

This scooter should cost much less to manufacture, operate, and maintain than any other ATV currently available.

This design also incorporates a folding frame.

This allows the user to bring it indoors at night for security.

It also allows us to ship the scooter fully assembled in a box of less than 9 cubic feet.

This design is made from mild steel and commonly available components.  Repairs should not require sourcing parts unique to this design.

Our next step is field testing here in the States.  We can begin that as soon as some snow melts.  Check back soon for results of the field tests and performance comparisons with conventional designs.
